combeferre who pulls over on the side of the road one night after noticing a hitchhiker shakily holding his thumb out to oncoming traffic as snow begins to fall, who rolls down his window and ducks his head down with a smile and simply says, “get in if you want, it’s only going to get worse out here and you shouldn’t be out in the storm.”

courfeyrac who had ran away on an impulse because he was tired of living in his closed-minded town and honestly hadn’t expected anyone to pull over and offer him a ride to anywhere, but nonetheless grabs all of his things that he managed to stuff into his bag and climbs into the car, exhaling a relieved “thank you so much.”

combeferre who doesn’t pry to hear any explanations unless courfeyrac decides he wants to tell them and instead resorts to simply introducing himself and courfeyrac of course does the same in response - both hitting it off very quickly after they hear a political opinion being touted on the radio and groaning at the same time

courfeyrac who can’t help but think combeferre might actually be some sort of guardian angel looking after him - being (way too) overwhelmingly handsome but also being there in the most dire and rash situations - and only laughing far too loudly when combeferre tells him that they were going somewhere a good seven hours away and he can drop him off anywhere through there because he’s perfectly content right now watching the world go by

#courfeyrac eventually just glances into the backseat and notices several books on anatomy and biology#so of course he has to ask combeferre ‘so you’re not some serial killer right?’#and combeferre looks at him and then to the books and laughs but shakes his head ‘no’#and courfeyrac just grins because yes he’s paranoid as most hitchhikers should be but because he was#literally plucked from the side of the road by obviously one of the biggest nerds in the whole planet#(a nerd with a really nice jawline and a pair of glasses that sit crookedly on his nose)#(an absolute and total loser who has beautiful hands and a beautiful smile)#but nonetheless he makes caution to not be too trusting and at every gas station combeferre asks if#courfeyrac has any idea yet where he might want to go?#and courfeyrac just shakes his head because honestly he just wants to go /anywhere/#and anywhere is better with company rather than alone#because the world can sometimes be so big and scary and courfeyrac feels rather small (via weretaire)
